Lissa has a comprehensive knowledge base of the ethical and professional codes and standards of care governing mental health professionals of various licenses in New York State as well as applicable federal regulations, business, administrative, and employment laws that impact mental health practice.
Lissa received her B.A. degree magna cum laude from Columbia University’s School of General Studies, where she studied Anthropology and Philosophy and first discovered her passion for psychoanalysis and legal ethics. While at Columbia, she received the honor of Phi Beta Kappa. Lissa graduated from Fordham Law School, where she was a staff member for the International Law Journal. She received her Master of Social Work degree from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work, where she was a member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society.
Lissa has represented clients in Federal Court, New York Civil Court, New York Family Court, and at various administrative fair hearings. She began her law career practicing international maritime litigation at Holland & Knight, LLP where much of the work came down to managing the risks of various stakeholders in the international carriage of goods by sea.
More recently, Lissa worked “on the other side” as an Administrative Law Judge conducting fair hearings for cases involving alleged violations issued by various enforcement agencies.
Lissa is skilled in complex negotiations, corporate formation, employment law, multi-faceted ethical questions, and advising on issues impacted by federal, state, and administrative laws.
Integral to Lissa’s legal expertise is her clinical experience in private practice as a psychoanalyst, her work on an inpatient psychiatric unit, and teaching Relational theory and clinical process classes at a psychoanalytic training institute.
